Project Accountant

The Project Accountant will be responsible for processing draw requests, maintaining various cost and budget schedules, and processing invoices related to the company’s development projects. 

Responsibilities:

  • Project Accounting
    • Initiate and maintain accounting and reporting of development projects through the company’s project accounting system, including budgets, proposed & approved change orders, and review of actual costs from accounts payable
    • Review contracts in comparison to budget
    • Reconcile actual costs to Work-in-Progress in the General Ledger
    • Coordinate management reporting with the development
  • Draw Preparation and Coordination with Lending Institutions
    • Prepare monthly construction draws for submittal to banks and other capital partners.
    • Ensure the components of the project capitalization are in alignment with the budget, debt instruments, and management
    • Prepare and distribute monthly draw calendar
  • Project Invoice Payments and Vendor Relations
  • Prepare payment vouchers for construction/development-related invoices and obtain proper approvals / ensure invoices are within the contract framework
    • Review sales tax on invoices for the accuracy or accrue sales tax on invoices as needed
    • Communicate with vendors regarding billing/payments and reconcile vendor statements
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager.

Education:

  • B.A./B.S. degree
  • 5+ years of relevant project accounting experience

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Self-starter
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, able to multi-task
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in real estate construction/ development projects preferred
